HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
Description
Health information management is the collection analysis, storage and protection of the quality of patient health information. This information can be either paper-based, a combination of paper and digital (hybrid) or as is more often the case, a fully electronic health record (EHR). HIM professionals are using advanced technology as they perform most HIM-related functions. The HIM professional must have a wide range of knowledge, including HIPAA laws that protect patient privacy, data analysis and how to harness computer systems that collect data.
Training Objectives
The objectives of the programme are to produce a cadre of manpower that will among others perform the following functions at the Local Government Level for the successful implementation of the Primary Health Care Services. They are:
- Organise and manage health information services in health care delivery system.
- Organise and control health records.
- Co-ordinate the collection, storage retrieval and insurance of health data.
- Organise the preservation of health records.
- Formulate, collate analyse, present and interprets health statistical data.
Admission Requirement
- 5 Credits credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology or Health Science, Chemistry or Physics and any other subject at not more than two sittings.
- Duration: The course duration is 3 years (Six Semesters).
